International medical teams are urgently responding to an outbreak of severe diarrhea in central Haiti that a top government health official said Thursday had killed nearly 50 people in recent days.
Haitian Health Department Director General Dr. Gabriel Thimote told Reuters that as of late Wednesday, 49 people had died and more than 450 were in hospital in the outbreak.
Patients dehydrated by diarrhea were overwhelming hospitals in the country’s Artibonite and Central Plateau regions, north of the capital Port-au-Prince, he said.
Thats quite a bit of a diarrhea, if it kills you within hours with dehydration. I knew a guy who visited Haiti and he said :"You cant take anything for granted there, not even a solid turd" , after spending 6 days on top of a toilet. I had a similar expierence after eating Spinach Lasagna in Pasgetti's.
