Taipei, Oct. 23 (CNA) Twelve people were confirmed dead and 26 remained missing Saturday as Typhoon Megi moved toward China after causing serious damage in northeastern Taiwan, especially in Yilan County.
As of 5 p.m., 12 people in Yilan County had been confirmed dead, including nine buried by a mudslide that inundated the Bai Yun temple in Suao Township, the Central Emergency Operation Center reported.
According to Interior Minister Jiang Yih-huah, 26 people -- 20 Chinese and six Taiwanese -- remained unaccounted for, including 20 Chinese tourists, a Taiwanese tour guide and two Taiwanese tour bus drivers.
The three other missing Taiwanese people were a car driver and a couple driving a small truck.
